Cupcake topper tutorial

Hello! I've been having lots of fun working on Lily's party decorations.
I showed you the invites and some of the goodies I had gathered here.
AND I started a whole month before the party, I might add.
Read this post and you'll understand why that's a big deal.

The theme is cupcakes and polka dots.
And with cupcakes comes cupcake topper!

Ok I'm going to tell you a little secret...
until this year I never even knew about cupcake toppers...for me that meant sprinkles, jimmies, etc.
So when I saw them I was smitten and made a mental note to make my own for Lily's party and every party thereafter!

So without further ado the cutest cupcake toppers EVER...(drum roll please)

Well they are my first so that's why they are the cutest ever ;-) I don't even think it's possible for any cupcake topper not to be cute!

Want to make some for your next celebration?

Or just want an excuse to make cupcakes?

  • 2 inch scallop circle punch
  • 1.5 inch circle punch
  • Polka dot scrapbook paper*
  • Solid colored card stock in a variety of colors*
  • Glue stick
  • Letter stickers
  • Skinny craft sticks (these i found at wally world)

* You can use any type of paper combination but I prefer card stock for the backing because it's sturdier.
Here's how I put it all together:

** I made 24 toppers because that's how many cupcakes my stand holds but of course you can make as many or as little as you'd like.

That's all there is too it!

Now go and make a few...or 24!

And don't forget to make the cupcakes too!

*EDIT* I just realized that I didn't show you that I cut the sticks in half after I took the pictures...oops, sorry.  Otherwise they would be some really long cupcake toppers...but hey maybe it would catch on ;-)
