21 Day Challenge-Day 2 and 3 {catching up!}

Yesterday I literally was in a car from 9:30am until 5:30pm running from dr appts to school to dance etc.  After the girls were in bed I had zero energy to organize.  So today I played catch up.  Yesterday's challenge was your desk top and today was "the messy tupperware container cabinets".   Well I don't have a desk since I pretty much blog on my couch with my laptop so I picked the counter in our kitchen that is a hot mess.  I set this counter up to be our household info hub.  A place where I sort mail, pay bills, write my to do lists etc.  But somehow it always ends up a dumping ground for all sorts of odds and ends.

Take a look:

And here's the after:

I can see my counter!!

Here's a picture of my free calendar I got from Elle from SWITCHEROOm. Want one?  There's a button on my sidebar.

Before you go around saying "Wow! That Andi is so organized you should see her counter top!" Let's take a look at my kitchen table...

This is where everything sits that isn't going in the trash or being donated but needs to find a new home.  :-(  I need to find an empty laundry basket (haha empty laundry basket like they even exist) and put all this stuff in it so I can tote it around from room to room to put things away.

Allrighty then (anyone else love that movie?)....today's challenge was rubber container cabinet.  Well folks here's my cabinet...

The only thing I need to get rid of is all that candy!!  And I don't mean by eating it.  Tomorrow it is going in the trash.  I'm not a huge candy person...now chocolate, that's another story.  Unfortunately there is no chocolate up there :-(

Since this cabinet is already organized I thought I would tell you some of my tricks that maybe you could use in your home.  The first shelf is the kids stuff (mainly Lily's)  On the right side I have her sippy cups.  I like my lids and non spill thingies ( I have no clue what they are really called) kept separate.  For me it's easier to put them away.  So I came up with this:

A little bin within another bin.  The larger bin for the lids and the little one for the non spill thingies.

On the bottom left is small bowls and utensils.  I found these galvanized containers at IKEA for cheap. One for each kiddo.  I like having all of their stuff together.  Makes getting their meals ready that much easier.

The second shelf is where I keep our containers, plastic and glass.  There is a bin where I keep the lids.  Best solution for containers with lids. EVER.  Easy to put away.  Easy to find a lid.

The last shelf is where I hide keep the candy and also where I keep my food sealer and the bags that go with it.  This actually leads me to my next tip when it comes to organizing.  Keep things where you use them and where it make sense for you and your family. I keep the bags with the food sealer because when I do use it I (obviously) use them too.  I keep it up high because I don't use it every day or even every week.  I also keep our coffee, filters, splenda etc. right above the coffee maker.

Okay I'm off to look for that mythical creature known as an empty laundry basket. ;-)

For those of you who are here looking for crafts I promise I have some in the works!  Stay tuned!!!

  1. I like your idea of keeping the coffee near the coffee pot... I have a huge pantry so thats where I keep all things food related but I might have to move my coffee stuff because lately I am increasingly frustrated when I forget the creamer, then the sugar, oh and the coffee filter ugh! Thanks for the tip! Great job with the counter and (already organized) tupperware/plastic area.
