Awesome {styrofoam} acorns tutorial

Okay I am super excited about this project!!  It is an original, no knockoff.  The whole idea came from that little brain of mine!  And the best part?  It turned out even better then I had anticipated!!!  Are you ready for it?  Errr...now I'm worried i've talked it up too much.  I'll let you decide for yourselves...

Gah!  I love them! They are more sparkly in person.

Here's how I made mine.

Stuff you need:

Hemp cord (I found mine at Wally world)
sequin trim and/or rick rack in fun colors
styrofoam spheres and eggs
hot glue gun

Step 1: Cut the tops off of the sphere and egg then glue the top of sphere on to the bottom of the egg.  I used a steak knife to cut my styrofoam.

Step 2: Take your hemp and make a small loop at the end.

Step 3: Find the center of the top of your acorn and poke a hole.  I'm lazy and just use the tip of my glue gun.

Step 4: Add a bit of glue and push loop into hole.

Step 5: Start wrapping, gluing down as you go around.

Step 6: Wrap all the way around and then under the top of the acorn.

Step 7: This is what you should have when you are done wrapping the top.

Step 8: Take trim of your choice and start wrapping, make sure to overlap each row so that none of the white shows through.

And voila! an awesome acorn!!

here's why overlapping is important.

I'm not gonna lie, the ric rack ones were not as easy.  They weren't hard it just took more creativity to get it to cover the styrofoam nicely.

Now go make some for yourselves!

New Fall Wreath

Seriously something is wrong with me...I am starting projects and actually finishing them!  I don't even know who I am anymore ;)

I figured that Fall is a couple of days away so I should probably get out some of my decorations.  And on a whim I decided to make a new fall wreath.  I saw these beauties on Pinterest and was inspired.

source
I love my Spring wreath and had a hard time taking it down but I love the replacement just as much if not more!!

I had this huge wreath that at Christmas time I had wrapped with a fuzzy white yarn and stuck in some sparkly poinsettias and then after Christmas I took out the flowers and hung it in my bathroom waiting for some inspiration.

I thought it would be perfect for my new Fall wreath.

At first I was going to just wrap brown yarn on top of the white but well that lasted about this long...

So then I decided to use the brown yarn as an accent and made little crisscrosses all around.  I wasn't really sure what to do next until I saw the argyle looking wreaths I showed you above.  I chose charcoal and yellow diamonds.  I really wanted the leaves that I planned on adding to stand out so I went with white felt flowers.  I did two different shapes of leaves in three colors.  I am really pleased with the end result.

Now if the weather would just get cooler...

Halloween goodies

I am operating on 5 hours of sleep (Lily's been up since 3:30...no that is not a typo) so I apologize if I get a little loopy in this post.  Yesterday she was up at 5 and the day before it was 5:30, do you think tomorrow it will be 2:30?  Please Lord, show me some mercy.

That new medicine I am on has really been helping.  I am so glad I finally decided to try it.  My mood has been great (even on little sleep) and I have been knocking out the projects left and right!!  I started and finished the zebra stool in a day.  I have finished the girls' art display and will be showing you guys soon.  I have been sewing and mod podging like crazy too.  I have also made a few more goodies for my Etsy shop, like this crow's nest pendant.

Smoke colored glass pearls nestled in a nest of black coated copper wire.

I also made some Halloween themed coasters with lots of glitter!!

These last two are hopefully going in the shop by the end of today.  It's been gloomy here lately so I apologize for the picture quality.
Here are some blocks that say "boo!" and "eek!"

And my favorite halloween project so far...a memory matching game using dollar spot rub ons!
I am going to make a little draw string bag to store them in.

How are your Fall/Halloween projects coming along?

Zebra stool

Nope not what you are thinking...no zoology lesson on zebra poop, but I appreciate your potty humor ;)
I'm talking about this kind of stool...

Found it at my favorite thrift stores and I paid less then 5 dollars for it!!!  When ever i see cool furniture that is upholstered I usually walk away because I have no clue how to upholster unless the upholstered part is removable.  Then I can just wrap the fabric around and secure it with heavy duty staples. And in this case it lifted right off!  There is a space for storage, maybe it's an old vanity bench or something??

So I knew I wanted to paint it white but I wasn't sure what fabric I wanted for the seat.  Then I saw some brown zebra at hobby Lobby and knew right away that is what I wanted.  I thought it would be a fun accent that wouldn't be overbearing since it's on a small scale.  Next came the paint choice.  After running my zebra fabric idea by Cassie she suggested Summer White by Sherwin Williams.  So I bought a sample and I could not be more thrilled with the results!!  I plan on giving it a high gloss look as soon as I get to the store for some poly.

Now my oldest has a pretty place to sit to put on her shoes and get her book bag ready for school.

And speaking of color...I dyed my hair...

partying over here!!
