Thinking outside the laminant flooring box

Some of you may have heard that we are getting new flooring this weekend. 
Actually today.  Well we did...SEE!!

Well? What do you think? 

This is all we could afford. 

And we thought we would go for the patchwork carpet look for the rest of the room 
 

and while we were at it why not throw some carpet in the kitchen?

We thought it would be cozy while washing the dishes...

cooking dinner....

We are all about comfort here.

Well after all of that why stop there?  Why not carpet covered baseboards? 

Whatcha think?  Be honest....I can take it.

Okay...I'm totally kidding...heehee.  :-)

Did you think I'd gone off the deep end?  Nope just finding humor in a crazy situation. :-)

Our flooring experience has been nothing short of eventful.  

Here's the 411:

A salesman from a very large flooring company, let's just say it rhymes with Muna, came out to out a couple weeks ago and sold us some high quality laminant.  They have a low price guarantee and their salesman get commission for making a sale not the amount of the sale.  This actually works in the buyers favor because the salesman works with you on the price and we got a great deal.  And our deal included labor, the flooring, moving furniture, removal and haul away of the carpet and linoleum and removal and replacement of toilet and sink. Or so we thought.

So yesterday we get one of those automated calls telling us we will get a call between 6 and 9:30am from Muna telling us the time frame that the installers would show up.  Well at 8:30 am we get a call that they will arrive between 1 and 6 pm.  Um...what?  Yeah who in the heck starts installing a floor at 6 pm?  This is when the red flag should have gone up.  Well 11:30am rolls around and the doorbell rings, which is always a fiasco in my house because the dogs go psycho!  And I don't care what the dog whisperrrrrr (south park anyone?) says, you can't teach an old dog new tricks.  

Anyhoo...I was happy that they were here earlier then 6pm and that they would hopefully finish the job today. Oh if I only knew.  So the one of the installers comes in and takes a look around and says that he can remove our pedestal sink in the bathroom but can't replace it and that he doesn't have on his paperwork that they are to haul away the carpet or that they were to move appliances or remove the linoleum.  These are all the things our salesman said would be done. Needless to say I was a bit irritated.  So my hubby calls customer service and he was able to get them to agree to doing those things without having us pay any extra.   

Whoo Hoo!!

So why do you still not have a floor you ask?

Well about 1 hour passes and I overhear the installer say to my husband, "I don't have good news"  

AWESOME! (mucho sacasm)

So come to find out all of the laminate had these bubbling weird scratch thing-a-ma-gigs and they wouldn't go away.  He opened up six boxes and they were all like that.  So the floor in the picture isn't even the permanent floor.  We had them put some carpet remnants down in the kitchen and other spots where there was just sub floor because there were so many nails and splinters.  Not exactly kid or pet friendly. 

Now we wait until Monday for a phone call to see when they will come back out with new product to finish start the job. 

Even though our house is a mess, and even though we only have 1/4 of our floor in (until they take it out), we are thankful to have had such an honest and upfront installer.  He could have easily installed the floor and not said anything.  

So the adventure continues and hopefully will have a happy ending.
