21 Day Challenge-Day 1 {Junk Drawers}

Happy New Year!!

I hope everyone had a pleasant New Year's.  I actually stayed up past midnight.  It may be because I was coughing so much and couldn't sleep, but I'll never tell. Was able to catch NKOTB perform on Dick Clark's Rockin' Eve which was awesome.  Felt thirteen all over again. Yes you read that right...NKOTB as in New Kids on the Block...don't judge. ;-)

As I mentioned before, this year is about a fresh start.  I am ready to revamp all aspects of my life.  One of those things being my home.  I have plans to purge, clean, and organize it from top to bottom.  Helping me accomplish that goal is the 21 days to getting organized challenge over at A Bowl Full of Lemons.  Today is Day 1 {Organizing the "junk" drawer}.

Well this is how my junk drawer looks:

Pretty much organized, even have a junk drawer organizer.  :-) So I went on a messy drawer search and found not one but 3 drawers.  All but one of these drawers were somewhat organized but hadn't really been working for me.  So I tackled them all.

The first was my utensil drawer in my kitchen.

Here's the before:

I took everything out and wiped the drawer clean.  I weeded through all the stuff and anything I don't use or haven't used in the last 3 months went into the donation box.

Here's the after:

Nothing miraculous...but better!

The other 2 drawers were in my TV cabinet.

Here are the before pictures:

And the after:

I used dollar store bins to separate game console accessories.  And in the other drawer I put all of our games moving the cameras to the bottom drawer.  Nothing to donate...yet.  Still have to have the hubby go through the games and DVDs.  And I'm still brainstorming a better system then ziploc bags to group all my different camera accessories. But for now this will do.

So there you have it!  Day 1 down.  Feels good.

  1. There is a very satisfactory feeling that goes with decluttering/organising isn't there? I have been forced to reorganise and declutter as miss b left a lot of stuff for me when she went to Canada...I now have 3 more boxes for the op shop! {and it feels good.}

  5. Your drawers look great, Andi. I'm on a mission to declutter my house this year... we'll see how long that lasts:) I saw NKOTB, too! Kind of depressing how old they look!
