I made my own laundry detergent!!
It was so easy! I wish I had done it sooner.
Here's the recipe:
1 bar of Ivory, shaved (you can also use ZOTE or Fels-Naptha)
1 cup borax
1 cup of washing soda
Mix well for approximately 5 minutes. And that's it!
I got my recipe here. I tripled the recipe because I had 3 bars of ivory. I will be saving about 16 cents a load and only 1 Tbsp is required for each load. Love that!!
The shaved Ivory looks so neat in the jar. I'm curious how well the detergent works... you'll have to let us know. Congrats on getting something crossed off the list!
ReplyDeleteThat is so neat! The only thing I've ever made with borax is homemade gak :)

Wow that's awesome!
ReplyDeleteVery cool!! I'm glad to know how to do that!
ReplyDeleteeasy peasy! and did you try it out yet?
ReplyDeleteI have used that recipe for years and I love it. The original recipe that I had called for Zote so that is what I use. I have used Felsnaptha, but I like the way that Zote smells.
ReplyDeleteWith 1 bar of Zote, you do 3 cups of the other 2.
Um... GENIUS! I use the 7th generation lavender eucalyptus one for my sheets (it keeps my allergies at bay!) but I needed something cheaper for my clothes!!! great idea =)
ReplyDeleteas for the POM. It is WICKED strong, right?! I like the one that has cherry juice added b/c it adds a little extra natural sweetness but also cherry juice has a pretty long list of health benefits, just like pom juice! =) It doesn't taste like cherry medicine which was a total relief to me!
Best way to start a habit of POM? grab shot glass + take 1-2 shots of the juice per day =) Works like a charm!

Thank you! I don't intend to replace the store bought kind when it runs out.. I would much rather whip this up in it's place. Thank you for sharing!
