Dad Rocks

Father's Day is tomorrow and I had been looking for something that the girls both could make and that my hubby could take to work and display on his desk.  I stumbled upon this awesome craft by Crafts by Amanda.  Not only would it be fun but it was on our to do list for summer!

Yesterday I made a double batch of salt dough and found some itty bitty rocks outside.  I divided the dough in half and gave the girls some rocks.  Natalie patted out her dough until it was about 1/2 inch thick (I helped her a little)  Then I 'wrote' the words, "Dad Rocks" so that Natalie had a guide on where to place the rocks.  I forgot to take pictures because I was in such a hurry to get them in the oven before my husband came home from work!  So here are the afters:

Natalie's...

And Lily's...(how cute is that?)

I plan to write/paint the date and the kids names on them and then spray them with some acrylic.

For whatever reason Natalie's looks like this on the back...

I think I may just cover it with felt or something or I may just leave it.

But either way I think my husband is going to love them!

I hope to be back later to share my crafts from wine and design last night!
Have a wonderful weekend!

  5. Hi Andi!

I just came across your blog and love it! I make a lot of salt dough and have had trouble with the humidity lately. I made a neat batch of red, white and blue for the 4th of July and it baked up nice and hard and went soft two days later! I've had pieces where the backs turn out like yours did too.

Hope you have a wonderful week and I look forward to reading more of your blog!

    Take Care,
    Debbie K

  6. Andi,

I love this idea, it's so cute! The kids have pride in making it themselves and it's not macaroni ;0) LOL
