I knew I wanted to make some as soon as I saw them! I decided on plain muslin fabric so I could embroider some cute motifs. I sewed 5 napkins but have only done the embroidery on one. It wasn't hard at all but I just haven't sat down to finish the others. Here's the one I have completed:
I freehanded the fish with a fabric marker and used a simple backstitch. The smiling goldfish is thicker because I doubled the thread. I forgot to do the same when I was making the second fish but I think it makes the smiling fish stand out more, which I like. So it's a happy accident.
I have the book Doodle Stitching and plan on using some of the cute motifs out of there for the rest of the napkins.
Do you have any fun ideas or tips to make kids lunch less ho hum? I'd love to hear them!

ReplyDelete(hee hee, totally kidding, but still - add me).
We do Fun Food Friday at our house. You can find them all under the Silly Kid Lunches header on my sidebar. I also have them all on my Pinterest board titled, Our Silly Kid Lunches. I have a Kid Lunch Ideas board too.
ReplyDeleteMy oldest just started kindergarten as well, and carrying over our tradition into a lunchbox is HARD! Tomorrow will be my second attempt. Even just regular packed lunches are tough. I'm finding it difficult to come up with things that are healthy, that he'll eat, and that travel well without needing to be refrigerated or reheated.
I'm on the lookout for ideas, so I'd love to see some of the things you've come up with.
The cloth napkins are a really cute idea. Are they coming home with her okay?
Wow, that turned into a novel. Sorry. :)
I think all of Natalie's lunches will be special Andi..I love the napkins and know your little notes and special details will be the envy of her classmates!
ReplyDeleteAdorable! I always include little notes and I thought my son just threw them away and then one day (quite by accident) I found all my notes hidden in his backpack. Made my heart melt.
ReplyDeleteLOVE! I made some PUL lined snack bags a little while ago that I have yet to post about. Unfortunately they're a little big so I may need to make a few smaller ones. On my to-do list is a PUL lined sandwich wrap that turns into a place mat. I just wonder what the other guys are work will think of S's pretty sandwich wrap....
ReplyDeleteOoooh....that napkin is adorable!!! You are awesome! You should definitely sell those in your shop - and you should add dish towels with embroidery too! I don't use cloth napkins much, but I am always on the hunt for stylish dish towels. Just sayin'!! :)
