I have always wanted to do something to the back of our built in bookshelf. I decided in these last few weeks that I was finally going to do something about it. Then I discovered that the back of the bookshelf is cardboard! Yep we have lived here almost 7 years and I just discovered this fact a couple of weeks ago! I didn't think painting it would be the best idea so I brainstormed and thought I could just paint poster board and attach it to the cardboard so that it wasn't permanent. Well I tried and it ended up looking like painted poster board attached to the wall...lol! :-( I just couldn't get the seams straight and it looked cheap. So I went for it and just painted the cardboard! (please excuse the poor picture quality...the weather here has been gloomy)
I used a color called Aqua Frost that I had left over from when I painted Natalie's nursery. I know...big shock, aqua! The more I look at it the more I like it. At first I wasn't quite sure. I am contemplating a stencil in white on top of the aqua. So what do you think? I want honest opinions please. Too light, wrong color, should I stencil or leave it? Thanks guys!!
LOVE!!!!!! the color is gorgeous and it ties into the tv stand and rug now- beautiful, andi!!
ReplyDeleteI like it! I'm not sure if my opinion is being affected by the lighting but I can't help but wonder if it would look cool in the same color as your entertainment console?
ReplyDeleteI really really really really love it!
ReplyDeleteI like built-ins... you don't have to worry about them crashing to the ground and crushing you hahaha! (one of my fears)
ReplyDeletei love it! especially the styling with all the birds!! I'm wondering if the wall color to the left is distracting? maybe its the lighting? it looks like a light terra cotta to me? maybe i'm crazy- but I think the bookshelf paint might stand out more if that wall were the same color as the rest of the room.
ReplyDeleteWay to go taking that risk, Andi! This is gonna sound crazy but what if you use that slightly darker Aqua paint color of your TV stand to do a stencil (something like the background of your blog)? I dunno... I'm just glad you stepped outta the box. You go girl!!!
ReplyDeleteI love it! I think it's perfect. Stenciling would look great.
ReplyDeleteGood luck.

I LOVE it! But I think a simple stencil would really make it pop and catch your eye... if that's what you're going for. Sometimes I don't want some things in my house to be eye-catching, just to look good the one time you glance at it, you know? ;)
ReplyDeleteLove it!!!! You go girl!!! :-) This is very inspirational!!!! Can't wait to share the details of our bedroom switch-er-oonie (coming up in Easter!) We are moving our room downstairs to the "master" room! Master=HUGE!
ReplyDeleteP.S. This just in - only 45 DAYS TILL NKOTB! I always check the countdown Ha!
Later Gator,
Maggie
so cute! i wish i had handy bookshelves in empty spaces like that. btw, ive never seen your house but your kitchen looks adorable!!
ReplyDeleteLooks great! I so wish we had some built ins to paint! LOL. Personally, I also think it would look great if you matched the color of your tv stand - a bit darker and more POP. :) Then add a stencil in the lighter aqua for some subtle visual interest.
ReplyDeleteWow Andi, it looks amazing! I love the color....it is perfectly airy and lovely:)
ReplyDeleteI would leave it. I think it looks fabulous as is. Perfect color!
